Updating your iPod, iPhone, or iPad

Updating your iPod, iPhone, or iPad

So.. It has been a while since I updated the blog. Figured I would do a write up about properly backing up and updating your iPhone, iPod, or iPad.

Let’s start off by making sure iTunes is properly updated.

As you can see in the figure above, on a Mac, you click iTunes then select Check for Updates.

The next step is to connect your device to the computer. Once connected you’ll see it show in the device list on the left side.

To be safe we are going to start a manual backup of the device. In order to do this, right click on your device and left click on backup.

After the backup completes, right click your device again and left click on Transfer Purchases.

Now you can proceed to update your device.

If your phone does not properly restore after the update you can manually restore by right clicking on your device and selecting restore from backup.

When the restore dialog opens, verify the time and date of the backup, then select restore.

Do not use the phone of disconnect until you are notified of completion. Also note this walk through is focused towards users who have yet to upgrade to iOS 5. iOS 5 introduces iCloud which now offers wireless backup to the cloud.

Thanks for reading and I hope this provides help in upgrading your device. Our goal at Nortech Downtown is to provide the best sales and service and make you ecstatic about owning and using your Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.
